Paediatric Endocrinology

Definition:

Children having problem like in growth, puberty, diabetes or any other kinds of disorders relating to hormones and glands which produce the hormones should visit a paediatric endocrinologist.
For every child, they should have correct levels of growth hormone. Endocrine glands and pituitary glands release hormones into the bloodstream. Endocrinology deals with the study of such glands and the hormones.

Paediatric endocrinologists deal with different endocrine problems in children’s. They deal with the growth and development related problems as they are important for children healthy growth. They deal with hormonal disorders at the stage of childhood to teen years.

Reasons to see a paediatric Endocrinologist:

Unusually Short Stature- Children having problem with the height growth may need to meet an endocrinologist to confirm the hormone deficiency.

Diabetes Diagnosis – Children diagnosed with type- 1 diabetes which is also called as juvenile diabetes, which needs a visit to an endocrinologist.

Children with type-1 diabetes have problem in producing insulin hormone which regulates the use and distribution of glucose or sugar in our body, as our immune system attacks the insulin producing cells.

Type- 1 diabetes need administration of insulin to maintain the blood sugar levels, an endocrinologist will help you to learn how to administer insulin and to adjust the dosage according to the body needs.

Other Gland Problems- kids facing other hormonal imbalance of glands which may affect the bodies normal function need to meet an endocrinologist. Thyroid and pituitary glands can either produce too much or too less hormones, which may affect the heart and metabolic functions.
